SENATOR THAYER HELPS SECURE FUNDING FOR KEY FAYETTE COUNTY ROAD PROJECTS

FRANKFORT, KY (April 25, 2022) — The 2022 Legislative Session of the Kentucky General Assembly has concluded. Included in this year’s road plan for the commonwealth was funding for significant projects in Fayette County. Senate Majority Floor Leader Damon Thayer (R-Georgetown) played an instrumental role in securing these vital funds.

“When the legislature fulfilled its constitutional obligation to conduct redistricting early in this year’s legislative session, I was enthused to become the state senator for the northwestern part of Fayette County, which is the horse capital of the world,” Thayer said. “For our signature industry and Fayette County to thrive, it’s critical our highways, roads, and bridges are up to par. I was proud to advocate for Fayette County in this year’s road plan and state budget, and I think Fayette and the 17th district fared well.”

Fayette County projects receiving funding include:

●       Nearly $49 million total for improvements to New Circle Road (KY 4) from Leestown Road to near Georgetown Road:

○       $10.75 million for land acquisition for right-of-way and identifying and repositioning utilities in the biennium (2023-2024).

○       Over $38 million for construction through 2027.

○       The project includes creating a double diamond at the Leestown Road interchange.

●       Over $33.5 million to improve Georgetown Road (US 25) from Kearney Road to Ironworks Road (Scott County):

○       Nearly $12 million for land acquisition for right-of-way and identification and repositioning of utilities in the biennium (2023-2024).

○       $21.75 million for construction in 2025.

The Kentucky General Assembly also allocated $250 million in efforts to secure federal matching funds for three major projects; the Brent Spence Bridge in northern Kentucky, a widening of the Mountain Parkway in eastern Kentucky and the Interstate 69 Ohio River Crossing Project in western Kentucky. The Brent Spence Bridge will be the cabinet’s main focus in the first round of grant applications.

“These investments in our state’s infrastructure will build on the successes the legislature has helped stimulate through good conservative policies since 2016,” Thayer said. “We have witnessed historic economic investment since that time. Reliable infrastructure, including broadband and water and wastewater systems, is essential to our further growth and success.”
