FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 6, 2020) – The following is a statement from Kentucky Senate Majority Floor Leader Damon Thayer regarding the Franklin Circuit Court ruling in the House Bill 114 lawsuit:
“The recent legal victory by Attorney General Daniel Cameron and his staff regarding 2019’s House Bill 114 is, in truth, a victory for all Kentuckians. The Attorney General was granted summary judgement in the lawsuit by former Secretary of State Alison Grimes, of which I was a main target. The Court noted in its decision that Grimes’ challenges to law passed by the General Assembly were ‘rooted in policy differences,’ and therefore had no business before the Court. Because of this decision, crucial law reigning in abuses of power by the former Secretary of State will remain in effect and continue to help bolster the integrity of our election systems.
Additionally, the Court dissolved the restraining order preventing the special prosecutor’s criminal investigation of Grimes from proceeding. I applaud that decision, because any other reckless behavior on the part of former Secretary Grimes should be brought to light for full view by the citizens of Kentucky.”
